'The first time I ever saw him in person was after he retired. It was an oldtimer game after one of the strike seasons. When he came to the plate he looked like an old timer on borrowed time using the bat as a cane. He stepped to the plate, Bob Feller threw the ball, and Tony-O rattled the ball off the right center field fence for a double. Between him and Rod Carew, those are people who knew what to do with a bat.'
